Doctor Bio
Richard Reinap II, DVM
As a young child growing up in south Austin, TX, Richard Reinap II made the decision of his life. He announced to his parents that he wanted to be a veterinarian when he grew up. During the remainder of his childhood, his passion and determination never wavered. His parents gave him support – his father by sharing his affinity for animals, his mother by being patient with all the new (and wide variety of creatures he brought home, and his sister by being the “holder” while things were being cleaned. This childhood 'animal kingdom' included dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, snakes, horses, and turtles.....at one time or another.

Dr. Reinap's first position at a veterinary clinic was as an intern at Capital Veterinary Clinic during his senior year in high school. This internship evolved into employment during summers and whenever classes at Texas A&M University were not in session. This employment continued intermittently, over the next ten years, while he received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science at Texas A&M University. Dr. Reinap was part of the graduating class of 1996 with his Bachelor of Science. In 1999, he received his Master's in Poultry Science, with an emphasis in Immunology, from A&M. Then, in 2005, Dr. Reinap graduated with his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, also from Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine.

After graduating, he moved to Orange, TX, to join a mixed (small and large) animal practice. Just two months after he began practicing, Hurricane Rita hit the area and caused considerable damage to the practice. Dr. Reinap helped to provide care for over 100 pets that were at a boarding facility next door to the veterinary practice. After he knew all of these pets were safe with their owners, or had been moved to better facilities, he communicated with the Texas Veterinary Medical Association and volunteered to help transport and distribute supplies needed to veterinarians in the affected area as well as helping with animal healthcare needs in the area. When his help was no longer needed, Dr. Reinap joined a primarily small animal practice in Vidor, TX. While he enjoyed working and learning at this clinic, he had a strong desire to move back to his hometown. In Austin, he joined a mixed animal practice that had two clinics (Lockhart and Luling). Though he was doing a job that he loved, Dr. Reinap still had one thing that he longed to do....build his own veterinary practice. At that time, he chose the Lake Travis area because not only was it close to the area where he grew up, but he also loves the lake.

In his years of experience, Richard Reinap, DVM, has seen patients of many different species, including: cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, pet birds, turtles, hamsters, ferrets, deer, horses, cows, goats, sheep, pigs (including pot belly), and even rats. And he welcomes patients of all kinds. He is driven by his passion for animals and his goal of providing services to promote and enable the human-animal bond through medicine, surgery, and consultation.
